What we hold for Washington, DC

All property data on this site is public record. For Washington, DC that means:

• Parcels and ownership — DC Office of the Chief Technology Officer, Property and Land datasets, including the Common Ownership Layer.
• Rental licences — DC Department of Licensing and Consumer Protection, Basic Business Licenses, filtered to residential housing.
• Housing-code violations — DC Department of Buildings, Public violations dashboard.
• Unit counts — DC Office of the Chief Technology Officer, Master Address Repository housing unit counts, with Address Residential Units as a secondary source.
• Sale history — DC Office of Tax and Revenue, Property Sales (CAMA) records, which tell us when each property last changed hands.

Every record we show carries the source it came from and the date we retrieved it. We never assert that a person or company owns a property; we say what the records indicate, and link to them.

• DC's violation data carries no abatement date, so we can never tell you whether a violation was fixed — only that it is on record.
• The District does not publish which properties were inspected, so a property with no violations may have passed an inspection or may never have had one.
• Eviction figures DC publishes are ward-level monthly counts and cannot be attributed to a landlord, so we hold none.

Under the local rental housing law, an accommodation that is not registered is rent-stabilised by default until the housing provider complies. That is a statement about legal status, so where we show it we also show how we concluded it — and we say it is worth confirming with the relevant agency before relying on it.

Parcels here are identified by SSL (Square-Suffix-Lot), which is the identifier shown on property pages and used to link our records back to the source.
